INCOSE UK AWG

Introduction

Welcome to the wiki for the INCOSE UK Architecture Working Group. The aims of the AWG are to:

  • To provide guidance and advice to UK systems engineering community on architecture practice;
  • To exert influence over the use of architecture concepts within the UK systems engineering community;
  • To liaise with other systems engineering groups involved in architecture work.

The AWG functions under a framework provided by its Terms of References.

The work of the AWG is divided to the following areas:

18th Annual INCOSE International Symposium

The views and ideas of the AWG have been documented in a paper submitted for inclusion in the 18th Annual INCOSE International Symposium, "Systems Engineering for the Planet", being held in The Netherlands, 17-19 June, 2008. This paper has been accepted for publication in the Symposium Proceedings and for Oral Presentation at the conference.

The paper discusses progress towards a new characterisation of architecture based on the activities of the AWG. The focus of the paper is on describing the diversity of opinion observed in discussions of the fundamental characteristics of architecture and progress towards resolving the various conflicts that arise. The AWG made progress in refining the definition of architecture, the understanding of the role of patterns within architecting and how the conceptual underpinnings of architecture may be made consistent with the uses and types of architecture.

The paper is here.
